NOW HIRING – MUSEUM EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The Lindsborg Old Mill & Swedish Heritage Museum celebrates and preserves the pioneering spirit of the Smoky Valley by educating, entertaining, and building community across generations so that history comes to life. With special emphasis on the period from 1870 to 1910, the museum includes two buildings on the National Registry of Historical Places and extensive archives and artifact collections. The Lindsborg Old Mill & Swedish Heritage Museum is searching for an Executive Director to provide leadership, communication, and coordination to the Lindsborg Old Mill and Swedish Heritage Museum. The Executive Director is responsible for leading all activities for the museum. The Executive Director provides dynamic leadership, develops, implements, and supports a comprehensive fundraising plan to expand philanthropic support of the organization, identifying and strengthening relationships with the community stakeholders.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • In collaboration with the Board of Directors, develop and execute a strategic plan to support the museum’s mission and goals.
  • Expand local, statewide, national, and international awareness of the museum through a coordinated and ongoing marketing campaign involving social media, advertising, and public presentations.
  • Serve as the primary spokesperson and chief advocate for the museum.
  • Develop viable funding streams through museum membership, fundraising, and grants supported by strong relationships with foundations, businesses, and donors.
  • Lead the museum’s operations, including:
    • Budget development and financial management
    • Staff management, including hiring, evaluations, and training.
    • Property management to ensure the safety of all museum buildings and collections.
  • Develop and monitor the organization’s budgets.
  • Respond to challenges with possible solutions promptly.
  • Engage in regular board development and management activities. Build relationships with stakeholders with the intent of cultivating new board members.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 5-10 years of experience in business or non-profit organization (ideally in a museum setting).
  • Ability to fundraise for a non-profit organization.
  • Positive and effective interpersonal style to engage all levels of stakeholders.
  • Advanced leadership experience, including vision, strategic plan development, and track record of successful execution.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.
  • Able to work weekends and evenings as needed.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Must regularly lift and move up to fifty (50) pounds and occasionally move up to seventy-five (75) pounds in the form of supplies or equipment.
  • Able to sit, stand, and bend to perform appropriate tasks.
  • Must be able to move at an appropriate pace to respond to emergencies.
  • Follow all safety requirements of the Lindsborg Old Mill and Swedish Heritage Museum, Inc.
  • May be required to stand for extended periods and work weekends or evenings as needed.
  • Work in different temperature environments.
