In this week’s update: FREE history talk, Millfest sponsorships, grant work, and more!
In our weekly update, keep up to date on what staff and volunteers at the Lindsborg Old Mill & Swedish Heritage Museum are working on to lift up the history of Lindsborg and the surrounding region. This weekly update both looks back at what happened last week and looks ahead at what’s coming.
For January 27 – February 2, 2025:
- We were pleased to have 29 registrants for “Are YOU the Family Archivist? (What to Do With ALL That Family Stuff?!)” last Saturday. This was a fantastic hourlong presentation by Sue Schlichting of Pursuing YOUR Past.
- Coming up on THIS Saturday, February 8, is our next presentation in the FREE online Historical Speaker Series! Karen Humphrey will speak on Alma Luise Olson – a Lindsborg resident and Bethany graduate who became a New York Times correspondent headquartered in Sweden! The presentation is open to the first 100 people to register HERE.
Alma Luise Olson - We have started to receive sponsorships for Millfest 2025 on May 3! So far, GrainCraft in McPherson, Radio Kansas and Peoples Bank and Trust have stepped up with their generous contributions! Opportunities for doing YOUR part and details on how to sponsor are on the flyer below! Just get in touch at oldmillmuseum@gmail.com for more information. Adam and Aubrey worked last week on direct mail letters with sponsorship information to area businesses and organizations as well. Watch your mailboxes!

This will mean many more historic multimedia on Hemslöjd, Svensk Hyllningsfest, Messiah Festival, Midsummer’s Festival, St. Lucia, and a variety of oral histories coming to our YouTube page for each Flashback Friday! This project is made possible thanks to a Nutt grant to the Smoky Valley Historical Association through the McPherson County Community Foundation.
- Work has started on installing a new temporary mini-exhibition.
- Tyler has been working on digitizing Hyllningsfest articles from the Lindsborg News-Record.
